Sensing Soil Workshop with Elizabeth Clough
Join a creative workshop to explore how looking at the soil can help us see the world differently.
Inspired by conversations between artist Elizabeth Clough local farmers and soil scientists at Lancaster Environment Centre, this workshop is an opportunity to explore the relationship humans have with soil, both practically through the cultivation of land and physically through its connection to our bodies.
Beginning with an introduction amongst the artworks in The Great Barn, the workshop will move onto a series of playful and fun drawing exercises. Then you'll take your sketchbook and walk into the landscape at Sizergh to experience living soil. We will practice methods of looking that Elizabeth learned through her research into regenerative farming combined with elements of her own artistic practice, and explore how this can apply to other areas of our lives.
Please note:
- Please meet at the Great Barn.
- Please wear comfortable clothes and sturdy footwear.
- Part of the workshop will be exploring soil in the landscape, which will be away from footpaths. The terrain will be uneven, and potentially slippery.
- Children over 10 are welcome, but must be accompanied by a participating adult
