This Family Woodcarving Workshop is a great introduction to woodwork for adults and children alike. 
In the 2 hour family workshop you will learn how to use traditional woodworking tools and equipment to make your own toy sword.

Family Woodcarving Workshop: Make a Toy Sword

This workshop will be led by Stephen Ryan who has 28 years experience in professional woodwork, but his passion for woodcraft started from an early age. This workshop has been born from his childhood memories of making things from wood.

During this 2 hour family workshop you will learn how to use traditional woodworking tools and equipment to make your own toy sword. This workshop is a great introduction to woodwork for adults and children alike. 
The workshop requires a parent or guardian  to participate along with their child and is suitable for one or both parents or guardians to participate along with their child/children with each participant purchasing a ticket. The ticket price is per participant. 

Each participant will make their own toy sword. 
Children participating must be aged 9 years and over.
Parents or guardians must be 18 years or over.

Please note:

  • Please meet at The Dairy Shed at Hezlett House Castlerock.
  • As you will be working in a workshop environment, sturdy footwear is important.
  • Accessibility for all
  • Children aged 9 years and over.
  • This course is suited to all levels including complete beginners. 
  • As you will be working in a workshop environment, sturdy footwear is important. A good pair of boots is ideal and if you happen to have steel toe caps this would be even better. Open-toed or low-cut footwear is not suitable and may mean you cannot participate in the workshop. 
  • The tutor will supply safety gloves but if you have your own tight-fitting safety gloves feel free to bring them along, please also tie long hair back and remove jewellery  that could get caught in equipment. 
  • These safety measures are to protect your hands and feet from cuts, to protect your feet from sharp and heavy tools and equipment being dropped and to stop your hair and jewellery getting caught in a drill or other pieces of equipment in the workshop
