Meet Rembrandt: a slow looking experience (pre-booked tickets)

As one of National Trust’s greatest treasure comes to Kingston Lacy, you are invited to spend time with Rembrandt’s Self-portrait in a Feathered Bonnet, giving yourself space to make your own discovering and engage more deeply with this astonishing, flamboyant work.
There’ll be comfortable chairs for you to settle in, and audio guides to prompt your slow looking. What you see will be up to you; this is time for you to respond personally to a single work of art, connecting over nearly four centuries with one of the greatest visual artists ever.
Usually displayed at Buckland Abbey in Devon, the portrait will be on display at Kingston Lacy 12 January – 22 March 2026, 10.30am – 3pm.
This is a self-led experience of up to 20 minutes. We are operating a timed ticket entry system. Time slots available each day are 10.35am, 10.55am, 11.15am, 11.35am (pre-bookable), 11.55am, 12.15pm, 12.35pm, 12.55pm, 1.15pm, 1.35pm, 1.55pm (pre-bookable), 2.15pm, 2.35pm and 2.55pm. Please collect your timed ticket to meet Rembrandt from Visitor Reception on arrival. Two time slots each day (11.35am and 1.55pm) can be pre-booked online up to 24 hours in advance of your visit – please follow the link to book your ticket.
Normal admission charges apply. National Trust members will need to show their membership cards at Visitor Reception and non-members will need to pay the admission price (please see admission prices on homepage) or join the National Trust.
Please note:
- Standard admission charges apply to non-members on arrival.
- Meet in the main entrance hall of the house. Level access entrance available via the laundry courtyard.
- The portrait will be on display in a fully accessible space. Personal wheelchairs and mobility scooters are welcome. If borrowing a Kingston Lacy mobility scooter you will need to transfer to a manual wheelchair to access the experience.
