Tea and talk - Colours of the Renaissance

Join us for an afternoon bringing to life stories of the colourful pigments artists have used to create some of Upton's most distinctive paintings. Followed by a choice of tea/coffee and scones in Upton's Pavilion cafe.

Art works created in the Renaissance have brilliant colours that are still vibrant after many centuries. This talk will explore some of the extraordinary pigments available to artists from the fourteenth century onwards, including where they came from and how artists used them.

Drawing on examples from paintings in Upton’s collection, we’ll consider how artists use of colour helped to shape people’s visual imagination, literally colouring their experience of the world.

Relax afterwards with your choice of tea/coffee and fresh scones served in Upton's Pavilion cafe.
