Dorking to Box Hill Guided Hike

11km guided hike, taking in all the special parts of Box Hill.  Enjoy the unique trail while your guide points out key points of interest along the way, from the flora and fauna to the fascinating archaeological features.

This strenuous circular route will take around 4 1/2 hours including a 20 minute break half way at Box Hill cafe. Starting and finishing from Dorking Main Station, you’ll see stunning many stunning views including Denbies hillside and looking out towards the south downs. Your guide will point out key points of interest around Box Hill, from the flora and fauna to the fascinating archaeological features. 

The route involves one climb and descent. There may be some countryside steps, and the terrain is generally uneven. The hike will go ahead in all weathers, and some areas could be muddy. Good walking books are essential, and walking poles may be useful.  

Please bring water and a snack, and note the only facilities are at the halfway break at Box Hill Cafe. This is an interactive experience we welcome questions and sharing experiences. Your guide will tailor the pace, breaks and content based on the needs of the group.  

If you enjoy being outdoors in nature this is the perfect way to explore the countryside, meet like-minded people and find out more about the Surrey Hills.  

Car parking is available at the station or in Dorking town centre (please check for parking charges) You can also arrive by train either to Dorking Main station or Dorking Deepdene, and there are multiple bus routes that come through as well.

Please note:

  • Please meet outside Box Hill café.
  • This is an outside event so will need weather appropriate clothing, walking boots and walking sticks are recommended. We will stop halfway so please bring a snack.
  • Not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs. The walk will include climbing up the hill, including countryside steps.
  • Suitable for 12+, under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
  • No dogs please.
