Botanical Drawing in the Rose Garden, Sun 7 June 1-4pm
Draw and paint roses in the rose garden with artist Edward Luke Thrush. Explore botanical drawing using ink and colour, and discover new ways of seeing plants through nature, history and identity. Suitable for all abilities.
This Pride month, join artist Edward Luke Thrush (he/him) for an outdoor botanical drawing workshop in the rose garden at Morden Hall Park.
Spend the afternoon drawing directly from the historic roses, using fine ink pens to capture shape and detail, then adding diluted inks to build colour and depth. Edward will guide you through simple techniques to help you observe more closely and develop your own style, whether you are new to drawing or already have experience.
As you work, the session will also explore the stories, symbolism and ecology of roses, including how plants can be understood through different perspectives, including queer identity and history. This is an open and welcoming space for everyone to take part, share ideas and enjoy time in the garden.

Tutor bio:
This session will be led by Edward Luke Thrush (he/him), a designer, illustrator and artist based between Birmingham and London. His work explores the meeting point between urban and natural spaces, using botanical forms to reflect on themes of discovery, belonging and identity.

- All materials are provided, but feel free to bring your own tools. The session takes place outdoors, so dress for the weather and bring a chair or picnic blanket if you prefer.
- The workshop is held in the rose garden and the walk may follow some uneven ground. There is an accessible toilet nearby in the Snuff Mill. Please contact us in advance if you have specific access requirements. Disabled parking is available in the main car park.
- Suitable for 13+. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
