The Nest - How to Garden for Wildlife (Session two)
A new gathering place for bird lovers. Join us at Cherryburn, birthplace of Thomas Bewick, for a series of events celebrating birds, nature and the joy of looking up.
Join us for a special programme of monthly birding events from July to October, held on selected Saturdays at Cherryburn. Each session begins with an engaging workshop, talk, or demonstration, followed by two hours of exclusive access to the garden while it is closed to the public.
Session number two is How to Garden for Wildlife
Discover how to make your garden more welcoming for birds, insects and other wildlife in this engaging talk with professional horticulturist John Grundy.
Learn practical tips from an experienced, wildlife-focused gardener, and bring along your questions for friendly, expert advice. You’ll also have the chance to chat with Cherryburn’s gardener, Jordan, about how we care for our own nature-friendly garden.
After the talk, enjoy exclusive access to the garden. Relax in a deckchair, listen to birdsong, sketch using our art materials, or simply unwind with a picnic and connect with fellow nature lovers.
Timings:
• 10am – Arrival
• 10.30am – Talk begins
• 11.30am – Talk ends
• 11.30am–2pm – Enjoy the garden at your leisure

Please note:
- Please aim to arrive at 10am and meet us at the car park entrance, where a member of the team will welcome you and check you in. Simply give your name to confirm your booking.
- We recommend wearing sensible footwear, as some areas of the garden can be a little uneven, and bringing waterproofs in case of rain.
- Accessible parking in main car park, 100 yards from house. The path from the car park is sloped, surfaced with fine grade material.
- If you have binoculars, do bring them along – we’ll also have a limited number available to borrow on the day.
- If you’d like to stay on after the session and enjoy the garden, you’re very welcome to bring a picnic. Seating will be available, including deckchairs and picnic benches, and you’re welcome to bring your own camping chairs for extra comfort.
- During the artist session, all materials will be provided – just bring yourself and enjoy getting creative.
