Community Festival walk: The Superpower of Map Reading
This family-friendly walk will introduce you to the skill of map reading, helping you to understand everything you need to use a map to plan and follow a route.
We are increasingly using digital tools to tell us where we are and how to get to somewhere else. These tools are amazing, but what happens when our battery dies, when GPS is lost, your phone falls in the river – or down the loo? Being able to map read can be a life saver, save time, and can be loads of fun! In this walk, we will explore all the essentials of map-reading from locating where we are, to plotting a route and going there, as well as identifying all the features on it. We will also introduce how to use a compass with your map.
This walk is part of Belton's Community Festival which offers free access to the whole estate across the weekend of 5 and 6 September 2026.

- Please meet at the Info Hub which can be found on your left as you walk out of the car park at Belton Estate.
- Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes or boots for walking.
- This walk will be taking place across Belton's parkland which has uneven surfaces and varied terrain. Unfortunately this means it is not suitable for wheelchair users.
- Suitable for children aged 8+. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
