‘No Friend Like a Sister’: The importance of relationships between Pre-Raphaelite women - Saturday 26 September, 11am - 1pm
In the absence of the considerable social freedoms that male artists and writers had, how did the women associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement make connections, network and support each other? This lecture explores the friendships and familial connections of some of those women, including the Rossetti sisters and the Morris family, and these networks are more extensive than you might expect!
Serena Trowbridge is Professor of Pre-Raphaelite Studies at Birmingham City University. She is Chair of the Pre-Raphaelite Society, Senior Vice-President of the Birmingham & Midland Institute, a Trustee of the William Morris Society and a Companion of the Guild of St George. Her research focuses on Pre-Raphaelite women, and she is currently preparing an anthology of Pre-Raphaelite women’s writing for Routledge.
£20 per person, booking essential, admission costs included. Tea and coffee are included on arrival. Talk takes place in the Meeting Room located above the Old Manor Shop.
