Festival of Lights Celebration
Join us for a special evening of music, traditional crafts, festive décor, and delicious food to celebrate the Festival of Lights.
Enjoy music performances, take part in traditional crafts and games, and soak up the colour and lights of Diwali at Dunstable Downs.
All are welcome, whether you celebrate Diwali, or you simply want to experience something new and discover the story behind the festival.
During the evening, guests will be treated to performances from Soulful Sangeet, a vibrant tabla and flute duo featuring Mendi Singh and Shubham Tageja. Blending traditional Indian classical and folk influences with Bollywood favourites, popular melodies and contemporary fusion, their uplifting music promises to hit all the right notes for the celebration.
We'll also have Amrit Kaur, an acclaimed singer-songwriter, composer and sarangi player whose music has been described by OZY Magazine as “the place where Panjabi folk meets Aretha soul.” Her immersive, emotive soundscapes weave powerful stories of culture and identity. One of the few professional female sarangi players in the world, Amrit has performed on stages including Glastonbury Festival, the Barbican, and the UN General Assembly alongside the Bob Marley family.
For those attending the event, The View Café will be open and serving an assortment of delicious food options including a South Asian chickpea curry one pot, sweet potato massaman curry one pot, Cajun fries, curried cauliflower pasties, and lots of cakes and bakes. Guests are also very welcome to bring their own traditional sweet treats.
