Downstairs Tours

For the first time in ten years, experience the servants' areas of Belton on a fascinating guided tour.

You'll explore the kitchen, used as a set in BBC's Moondial and other productions, as well as the adjoining scullery. You'll learn why servants were supposedly made to whistle as they walked through a tunnel, and see some of the bells used to call them. You'll then enter the butler's pantry and see the small bedroom where he slept to protect the strong room and wine cellar. These rooms are next on the tour and you'll get the exclusive chance to see some of the stunning ornate silver stored here. From the male side of the basements, you'll move across to the still room where female servants would prepare medicines and afternoon teas, and then into the chapel, where you'll discover the etiquette of attending services and get to see this spectacular space up close.
