“Be A Ranger Day” Series Day 1- Agroforestry at Glastry

Could you be a Ranger for a day? Are you passionate about the environment? Worried about the climate crisis? Would you like to help protect your local area?

The National Trust Rangers at Strangford Lough would love to meet you.

Join our winter Be a Ranger series to share what you value about your local landscape, discover how we care for nature around the Lough and Ards Peninsula, and take part in practical conservation work.

Across four themed events, explore how trees can support wildlife, improve soil, benefit farming and help landscapes respond to climate change.

Join the National Trust Ranger Team for a morning exploring Glastry and discovering how trees, grassland and conservation grazing can work together.

During a guided walk, you will learn about the history of the site, its ponds, grassland habitats and the wildlife monitoring carried out by Rangers. You will also discover how carefully planned tree and hedgerow planting can improve habitat without preventing the land from being grazed.

After the walk, participants will have the opportunity to help plant native trees and shrubs as part of Glastry’s developing agroforestry landscape.

No previous experience is required. Tools and instruction will be provided.
